Tate Modern Art Gallery London
Tate Modern is a British Art gallery located in Bankside area of central London and is part of the Tate Modern Group along with Tate Liverpool, Tate Britain, Tate Online and tae St Ives. All of the collections present in Tate Modern belong to international Art. More than 4.6 million users visit this gallery every year which makes it World’s most frequent visited art gallery. The gallery is built in an old power house building which was closed in 1981. Then the two architects named De Meuron and Herzog proposed a new design of that building to accommodate the art gallery which was opened in 2000. The international art collection present in the gallery dates from 1900 to date. Most of the collection is displayed on level three and level five because level two is reserved for art work and level four is reserved for exhibitions. The Tate Britain has seen more number of visitors as it was expected to see, this is why a major extension plain is ready for the gallery in 2012.

History of Tate Modern Art Gallery
Tate has a long history dating back to 1897 when it was only one site that had a limited number of British artworks. But by 1992, the Tate Trustees decided to open a new and more organised art gallery in London and that was when it was decided to build the Tate Modern, which was intended to feature international modern art. Then later in 1994, a bankside power station building was selected to open the new Tate Modern which was designed by Herzog and De Meuron - two Swiss architects. The building of power station was completed in two intervals during 1947 and 1963. It was later converted into Tate Modern in 2000 and after its opening, the art gallery has been visited by 40+ million people. Later in 2009, further improvement plans were suggested to upgrade the building but the project is still under process. -

Tickets and Entry
Entry is free of cost but if you are going to attend a major exhibition then you will have to buy the tickets. The prices of tickets are dependant on the type of exhibition you are going to attend. -

Operational Hours
The gallery opens from 10:00 am to 6 pm (Sunday to Thursday) and from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm every Friday and Saturday. Last admission is at 5:15 pm from Saturday to Thursday and and 9:15 pm on Fridays. The gallery remains closed on 24th, 25th and 26th of December due to Christmas holidays. -

How to Get There
By Southwark Tube Station
The nearest tube station which is located within one mile from the main Tate Modern art gallery is Southwark and it serves Jubilee Line. On leaving the station, head south towards the Cut and take a left turn onto Union street. After 0.1 miles, turn left onto Great Suffolk Street and then after 0.2 miles continue onto Summer Street. After 299 feet, turn right on the same street and after 486 feet, take a left onto park Street then after 482 feet turn left onto New Globe Walk. Then make a left turn onto Bankside after 0.1 miles, turn left onto Millennium Bridge and then take a right turn to stay on Millennium Bridge. The destination will be on your left. By Bus
You can also take bus number 344 to reach Southwark, Southwark BridgeBankside Pier (Stop BC), which is located a few steps away from the Tate Modern Art Gallery.
