2013 Holiday Events in Jekyll Island, GA

Jekyll Island, Georgia, is hosting several holiday events in 2013. The community has always celebrated holidays in style, particularly those occurring during the late autumn and early winter months. This legacy goes back to 1886, when Jekyll Island, Georgia, became the winter retreat for some of America’s wealthiest and most influential individuals.

The Carnegies, Rockefellers, and Morgans, among others, built mansion-sized family “cottages” and a grand clubhouse on this remote island off the South Georgia coast as their winter escape. Over a span of more than 50 years, these elite families enjoyed the mild winters and lush beauty of Jekyll Island, leaving behind a rich heritage in what is now a National Historic Landmark District, with many of the homes still intact and now revitalized.

Jekyll Island is a perfect destination for anyone wanting to step back in time and enjoy the holidays as they were celebrated throughout history. During the 2013 holiday season, residents and guests on Jekyll Island can enjoy timeless seasonal festivities.
