5 Ways to Recycle Margarine Tubs

Cheap and convenient to use, buying tubs of margarine is the way to go. However, that leaves us with a lot of lidded, plastic tubs (or bowls) to contend with once the product is used up. Take control over that stack of plastic bowls and put them to use with these 5 ways to recycle margarine tubs.

Dog Food To-Go

If your dog likes to ride shotgun with you in the car, margarine tubs are the perfect utensil for dog food and water to-go. Place dry dog food in a tub, snap on the lid and Fido will have fresh food all day. Nest a couple of other same-sized tubs under the food-filled one and you will have water and feeding bowls for Fido. Toss recycled, re-used tubs out at the end of the day without guilt. Use a smaller size when traveling with a cat or other pet.

Painters Helper

When you painting overhead trim or only need a small amount of paint for a touch up project, pour the wall paint for the painting task into a clean margarine tub. The smaller container is easier to carrying and no clean up required when the project is done.

Save the lids from the recycled tubs to place under small houseplant to catch drips.

Crafty Uses

Cut a small slit into the center of the plastic lid with a utility knife. Place a length of ribbon or yarn inside the tub and thread a loose end through the slit in the lid, place the lid on the tub and you have a free dispenser for your craft item.

All small craft items, like buttons, beads and thread, can be stored in clean margarine tubs. Use a magic marker to write on the contents of the tub on the outside to save yourself time when looking for specific items.

Piggy Banks

Here’s a useful and fun kids craft that recycles margarine tubs – turn them into piggy banks. Give each child a lidded tub, magic markers, stickers, etc., and allow them to decorate their own piggy bank. When ‘banks’ are decorated and dry, run a bead of household glue along the top edge on the tub and place lid on and press down to seal. Make a slit in the center of the lid so coins can be placed in the new bank and saved for that special treat.

Portable Food Holders

Small margarine tubs are the perfect size for portable snacks like those needed for children’s and adult lunches. Place grapes, crackers and the like in several lidded tubs and store in the fridge so the snacks will be easy to grab and go.

Large sized margarine tubs are perfect for storing or freezing leftovers.
