5 of the Coolest Ways to Use Your Freezer

You use your freezer to store foods for a long period of time. But, did you know that it has some other uses too? It’s true! Read this informative article and find out 5 of the coolest ways to use your freezer.

1. Kill Moth Eggs in Wool Clothing

Clothes moths- actually the young larva- feed on wool, fur and feathers. They start out as tiny eggs that are laid in the fabric. Once they develop into larva the destruction begins. You can treat infested wool clothing with insecticides such as moth balls. A safer way to kill moth eggs is to use your freezer. Place the items in a plastic bag; remove the air. Seal the bag securely. Place the bag in your freezer at 0 degrees Fahrenheit for 72 hours.

2. Make Your New Pantyhose Last Longer

Do you constantly find yourself buying new pantyhose because they wear out too fast? Use this trick to save money. Thoroughly wet a new pair of pantyhose with tap water. Wring them out gently. Put them in a plastic bag and seal it. Place the bag in your freezer until the pantyhose are frozen. Then, remove them from the bag and thaw them out. Hang the hose up to dry, and wear as usual. The freezing process strengthens the nylon fibers.

3. Easily Clean Your Silver Candlesticks

If your candlesticks have wax drippings all over them, simply pop them in your freezer for an hour. When you take them out, you can just pull the wax right off. Put the candle tapers in the freezer too, but for several hours. When you light them, they will burn longer and drip less.

4. Freeze Pomegranate Seeds for Polly

Another of the coolest ways to use your freezer is, store seeds for your parrot (or macaw or cockatoo) when pomegranates are out of season. Cut the fruit and remove the seeds. Arrange them in a single layer on a cookie sheet. Place the sheet in your freezer for a couple hours. Then, place the pomegranate seeds in a freezer bag. You can store them in your freezer for as long as 6 months.

5. Save Your Bananas and Your Grocery Budget Too

Bananas tend to ripen quickly, often before you can get them eaten. When they do, instead of tossing them in the garbage, peel them and cut them into chunks. Place them in freezer bags and store them in your freezer. Use the bananas to make delicious smoothies and protein shakes.
