How to Make Calendula Tea

Calendula, also known as Pot Marigold, is a well-known herbal remedy that has been used to cure a wide range of ailments for over hundreds of years. It is mostly used to treat skin problems like infections, inflammations, eczema, etc. Calendula flowers are usually used to make herbal oils and creams, but the petals of the Calendula flower are also used to brew tea, the drinking of which helps reduce fevers and infection, cleanses the body, and enhances overall health. It also helps relieve and reduce the inflammation of the stomach lining.

Like all other herbal teas, preparing Calendula tea also involves pouring boiling water over dried or fresh petals, and then allowing them to steep for some time, so that the petals can release their oils into the water.

Instructions

  • 1

    Gather the Calendula

To make one cup of Calendula tea, you will need two teaspoons of fresh Calendula flower petals, and one teaspoon of dried petals. You can use both the yellow and orange flower varieties to brew the Calendula tea. Dry Calendula petals can easily be found at nearly every herb store. You can also grow Calendula plants at home, in order to get fresh, organic petals.

  • 2

    Steep the petals

Place the Calendula petals in a mug or glass, and pour one cup of boiling water over them. Allow the petals to steep in the water for 15 to 20 minutes.

  • 3

    Strain the mixture

After the water is thoroughly infused with the flavour of the petals, run the tea through a tea strainer or cheese cloth, to remove the petals from the liquid. For the best infusion, get as much liquid out of the petals as possible, by pressing the petals with the back of a spoon.

  • 4

    Add honey

Calendula petals usually have a bitter taste; to combat the natural bitterness of the petals, add honey to the tea as a natural sweetener. The quantity of honey that you add depends on your personal taste and preferences - keep adding it until the tea is sweet enough for your liking.

  • 5

    Drink the tea

For best results, drink hot, freshly brewed Calendula tea thrice a day.
