Human history is dotted with the advent of diseases and the constant struggle to find a cure for them. Some of these diseases carved their reputation as the deadliest, because of the havoc they raised and the number of human lives which were lost to them.

Cure for most of them has been found now but when they first came into prominence, there was no way to prevent the carnage their brought. In this article, we will take a look at ten of the most deadliest diseases which still grip the world, and result in fatalities if proper attention is not given.

    Tetanus:

    Tetanus is a disease that hampers the function of nervous system with a poison. Symptoms of Tetanus include excessive sweating, irritability, drooling and uncontrolled urination. Tetanus can easily be prevented through active tetanus immunization. Its treatment includes antibiotics and surgery.

    Dengue:

    Dengue is a very dangerous disease caused by the bite of Aedes mosquito which contains dengue virus. Its symptoms include headache, fever, muscle and joint pains. Dengue treatment is a very difficult one and there is no commercial vaccine available. It is therefore better to prevent it in the first place by limiting exposure to mosquitoes.

    Bird flu:

    Bird flu is caused by exposure to infected poultry animals. This disease can spread by eating raw or under cooked poultry meat, eggs or blood from the infected birds.  The symptoms include cough, diarrhea, fever, headache and difficult breathing, sore throat and muscles aches. Bird flu can be spread through contact with an infected person.

    Cholera is an infectious gastroenteritis diseases which can cause diarrhea, dehydration and vomiting. It is caused due to consumption of contaminated food and water which are infected by Vibrio Cholerae. Taking care of hygiene in food consumption can prevent the disease.

    Malaria still remains as  a fatal diseases, especially in under developed countries. Like dengue, it is caused by the bite of an infected mosquito. The parasite enters the blood through the bite and then starts infecting the red blood cells.

    The advent rate of Tuberculosis has decreased significantly but it is still present in developing countries. It is caused by the myco-bacteria and the symptoms are mucous, fever, fatigue, weight loss and excessive sweating. TB can also spread through the cough, spit and sneeze of an infected person.

    Small pox is yet another deadly disease caused by Variola major or Variola Minor. The virus infects the skin and pox appear on it. The symptoms include fever, fatigue and headache. There has been a decrease in the number of infections after the 1980s.

    Cancer remains as one of the deadliest diseases with a very difficult treatment program. Cancer is a result of abnormal cell growth and occurs most commonly in areas like lungs, blood, mouth, breast, skin, bones. It is caused by drinking excessive alcohol, environmental poisons, chemicals like benzene, obesity, virus and radiations etc.
