How to Make BBQ Tofu
One of the most widely used soy-protein sources in the world, tofu makes for an excellent meat substitute for health conscious people who want to reduce their meat consumption. It is a versatile vegetable that can be cooked in a number of ways. Barbecued tofu makes for a low fat, high protein meal for veggie lovers, which is both healthy and tasty. In addition to being eaten as it is, barbecued tofu can also be served in a sandwich or a wrap.

Cooking time: 40 min
Total time: 2 hours 10 min
Yield: 3 servings
Ingredients:
Organic firm tofu: 1 package
High heat safe oil (such as grape seed or coconut oil): 1 tbsp
Herbamare/sea salt: As required
Pepper: For seasoning
Garlic powder: For seasoning
BBQ sauce of your choice: 1/4 cup, plus more for serving if desired
Instructions
-
1
Start by pressing the tofu for at least 30 to 40 minutes (overnight if possible) in a tofu press.
-
2
Drain the tofu and press it lightly between several papers to squeeze out any excess moisture.
-
3
Cut the tofu into ½ inch to ¾ inch rectangular pieces using a sharp knife, and marinate it for at least half an hour in the BBQ sauce of your choice.
-
4
Meanwhile, preheat a skillet over medium high heat. Add one tablespoon of high heat safe oil, such as grape seed or coconut oil, to the hot skillet, and then carefully add sliced tofu in a single layer.
-
5
Season your tofu with salt, pepper, and garlic powder, and allow it to fry over medium high heat for five minutes.
-
6
Carefully flip each piece of tofu using a pair of tongs and fry for another 5 to 6 minutes, or until crispy and nicely golden all over.
-
7
Remove from the heat and stir in some BBQ sauce, so that the fried tofu is completely covered with the sauce.
-
8
Your BBQ tofu is now ready; serve it immediately, with more sauce on the side.
