Instructions

  • 1

Before doing anything else you will need to make sure that you have what it takes to prepare fruit leather at home without needing any help from an expert. Always choose the fruits that you like and are easy to work with. Taste the various fruit that you will be using to decide how sweet it is and if any sugar will be needed.

It is recommended to choose slightly ripe or overripe fruit for best results. Ripe fruit can be easily crushed. Wash the fruit thoroughly before removing the peel. This will help you get rid of any harmful bacteria, ensuring the fruit is healthy and safe to consume. Remember to core pears and apples if you decide to use them. Also, remove any stems or pits that the fruit might contain. Carefully chop the fruit in to small pieces to make it easy to work with.

  • 3

Do not forget to wash the seeds and stems before you puree the fruit to achieve the required texture for your fruit leather. You may want to add either lemon juice or sugar to the pulped fruit. Remember this is according to your own personal taste as many people prefer to leave it as it is.

Place your fruit in a large saucepan with some water. Make sure to cover the pan and let it cook for 10-15 minutes. Once done, mash all the fruit inside the pan and taste it to check if the puree requires any lemon juice or sugar.

  • 5

Allow the puree to get nice and thick by letting it simmer in the saucepan for 5 to 10 minutes.

  • 6

Now take your food processor and carefully blend the puree until it is nice and smooth.

  • 7

Line a baking sheet with some plastic wrap and add the puree to it. Remember to spread the puree to about 0.2 inch thick in a baking sheet. Now place the sheet containing the puree in the oven, heated to 140 degrees F.

  • 8

Allow the puree to dry out before removing from the oven. Remember this can take anywhere between 8-12 hours.

Your fruit leather should now be ready to serve. The plastic wrap makes it easy to peel off and store properly.
