– Garden Shears/Sharp knife
– Clay pots
– Plastic bags
– Rubber bands
– Chopsticks

Instructions

  • 1

Remove all pieces of succulent plants with a pair of garden shears. If you do not have garden shears, use a sharp knife. The size of succulent cuttings depends on the plant size. Ensure that the cuttings you make include a piece of stem or two at least.

  • 2

Ensure the formation of a scab at the cut end. This can be accomplished by placing the cuttings in a shaded, warm and dry location for a few minutes. Remember that succulent plant cuttings will rot if the cut end remains unsealed.

  • 3

After the cut end of succulent plant cuttings dry completely, immerse that end in a rooting hormone.

  • 4

Fill a clay pot with pre-moistened and fast draining soil. Carefully pot the succulent plant cuttings into the soil.

  • 5

Alternatively, you can fill a plastic bag with cactus mix potting soil and carefully pot the cuttings in that bag. The plastic bag will create a greenhouse effect and thus facilitate in root development of the cuttings by providing temperature and humidity at optimum levels. Just make sure the bags you use are large enough to easily accommodate succulent cuttings.

  • 6

Insert chopsticks in the cactus mix potting soil to keep the plastic bag safe from foliage. Tie off the open end of the bag with a rubber band. A bright place shaded from direct sunlight is an ideal place for storing the bagged cuttings.

  • 7

Do not just leave the cuttings inside the plastic bags. Remember to remove them every 10 days or so, water the cutting and enclose them in the plastic bag as before.
