How to Pop a Beer with a Lighter

Most of us don’t carry bottle openers with us, and are stuck when the need arises. However, there are other ways to open a beer bottle and one of the most popular ones employs a plastic lighter – which will be readily available if you smoke, or have friends who do. This technique requires you to slide the lighter under the cap. The cap will pop open when you apply pressure to it by pushing the lighter upwards. The lighter should be slid in horizontally and the metal end of the lighter should not be facing the bottle.

Things required:

– A beer bottle
– Plastic lighter

Instructions

  • 1

Grasp the beer bottle with your left hand

You should hold the bottle in your non-dominant hand. A right-hander should hold the beer bottle in the left hand. You should have a firm grip on the upper-half of the bottle. Make sure the forefinger is wrapped around the cap of the bottle for an even stronger hold.

  • 2

Place the lighter under the cap of the bottle

You must place the lighter firmly under the cap and over the remaining fingers that are gripping the bottle. The lighter should be placed horizontally under the cap and you need to make sure that it remains under the cap's edge.

  • 3

Squeeze the left hand and push the lighter upwards

Once the lighter is set, further tighten your left-hand grip on the bottle so that the lighter fits in perfectly. After tightening the grip on the bottle, push the lighter in an upward direction so that force is applied on the cap.

  • 4

Keep applying force until the cap is removed

You must keep pushing the metal end of the lighter downward so that force is applied to the cap. Make sure your grip remains intact as altering the grip may make it difficult to open the bottle. The cap will start to move upward after force is applied on the lighter and it will eventually open.
