How to Make a Coaster Out of Magazines
Are you looking for a possible way to put old magazines to use? Consider making coasters out of them. This way you will not have to go through the trouble of discarding the old magazines. The task is really simple and the things you will need apart from the old magazines are readily available as well as inexpensive. The pages you use from the magazines should be coloured to make the coasters look more attractive.

– Old magazines
– Glue
– Spray gloss
– Ribbon (optional)

Depending on the desired size of the coaster, tear out an appropriate number of pages from an old magazine. For instance, if you are making a coaster that can hold a soda can, you will need about 12 pages.

Working on one page at a time, convert a page into a long strip by folding it over and over in ΒΌ inches wide folds along the longest edge of the paper. Before you start folding a paper, be sure that the coloured side is at the bottom.

After all the papers have been folded, readjust the tightness of the folds if required. If the folds get loose, consider holding them in place with glue.

Roll up a paper strip until the entire strip has been used up. Liberally apply glue to secure the end of the strip to the rest of the roll.

Roll one paper strip over the initial paper roll and secure each strip end in place with glue. Continue until all the paper strips have been used up.

When the coaster reaches the desired size, secure in place the final paper strip end and liberally apply glue on top and bottom surfaces of the coaster. Allow enough time for the glue to dry completely before moving on to the next step.

Apply a thin, uniform coat of waterproof spray gloss. As with the glue, allow time for the spray gloss coat to dry completely. To make the coaster look more attractive, run a coloured ribbon along the entire perimeter of the coaster. As with the paper strips, glue the loose ribbon end in place.
