How to Password-Protect Your Computer

People often face the problem of unauthorised access to their computers and eventually they have decide on whether or not to use password protection. This is not the only reason to password protect your computer as you might want to keep some personal or highly confidential data in your computer safe. Not to mention, keeping children away from the computer is also one of the most valid reasons as they can end up deleting your stuff. However, you should keep certain things in mind before password protecting your computer as this will restrict everyone from using it until or unless you have shared the password.

    Gain administrator rights

    The most important thing is to gain administrator rights, as these are vital for implementing such changes because without it, you cannot make certain changes to your computer or its settings. If it is your computer, then gaining administrator rights will not be a problem for you and it will just ask you to authorise for complete access.

    Go to control panel

    Now, you should go to the Control Panel which is beneath the ‘My Computer’ option. Double click on it to open. Now you should look for the ‘user accounts’ in the control panel. There will be dozens of options; thus you must not get confused and go through these carefully. If you have multiple user accounts in your system, then you must identify the account to which you can apply password protection. In the user accounts, you will be displayed the names of all accounts that are being run on the computer.

    Choose the account and apply password

    Now, you must select the account and find the option ‘set password’. You should click on it to set the password. Here, you must think of a password that no one can think of other than yourself. You should now enter the password in the spaces provided to you. Remember that you will be provided two spaces to enter the same password and both of these should match.

    Check if your password is working

    You must restart your Windows and check if the password protection is working properly.
