How to Build a Welding Table

If you do not have a proper welding table, you might end up injuring yourself. Consider making your own welding table at home in order to save invaluable money.

A major benefit of making your own welding table is that you can customise factors such as size and strength of the welding table.

Things Required:

– 2-by-2-by-1/8-inch square steel tubing
– 4-by-4-by-1/4-inch square steel plate
– 4-by-6 foot by 3/8-inch steel plate: 2
– Drill and HSS drill bits to fit casters
– 4 casters with weight capacity of 1,000 lbs.

Instructions

  • 1

To make the top and bottom surfaces of the welding table, cut the 2-by-2-by-1/8-inch square steel tubing into two 4-by-6-foot frames. The steel plates which will be used to add stability to the welding table would be supported by these frames.

A very small length of the steel plates needs to be extended farther out on all sides of the frames. This can be accomplished by keeping the dimensions of the frames a little smaller or keeping the still plates a bit larger than necessary.

  • 2

Use more 2-by-2-by-1/8-inch square steel tubing to cut out the legs of the welding table. Be sure to keep the height of each of the four tables legs equal and between 26 and 30 inches.

Mount the table legs you just made at the corners of the frames that you had made in the previous step. For added support, mount a fifth leg in the centre of the two frames.

You will now have to secure the caster wheels to the table. This can be accomplished by drilling holes in 4-by-4-inch steel plates. Attach the aforesaid plates at the frame’s bottom part and then bolt in place of the caster wheels. Make sure that the wheels you use have a weight capacity of 1,000 lbs.

Secure the bottom plate to the frame of the welding table. You would need to drill holes for this purpose so that the bolts can pass through the plates and can thus be attached to the bottom part of the frame. Finally, secure in place the top plate with bolts to complete the task.
