How to Plant Water Lilies in Pond

Flowers are one of the most beautiful gifts from nature. These are present all around in the natural environment, and can grow on the ground, trees and even on the surface of water.

Water flowers can be both naturally occurring as well as planted, like the water lilies, which come in various types. These look beautiful on the surface of water. Planting them in a pond is quite easy and can be done with a little bit of effort.

Things Required:

– Lilly Plant Tuber
– Large Round Tub
– Soil
– Shovel
– Pond
– Calcium Fertiliser
– Gravel

Instructions

  • 1

    Fill the Tub

Fill the round tub approximately three of four inches from the top with soil. The tub needs to be wide, depth is not all that important. The soil should be low on organic fertilisers such as compost as these can float in water. Use a shovel to fill the tub with the soil. Once you are done, push the soil down to remove as much air as possible.

  • 2

    Place the Tuber

Get a healthy tuber for the purpose of growing lilies in pond. Place the tuber on one side of the tub and slightly push it down in the soil. Placing it on the side is important as the lilies grow forward towards the other end. Add more soil on top but make sure that the leafy stems are out. Remove any leaves that appear to be weak. Put in more soil to cover the remaining area.

  • 3

    Add Fertiliser

Add a calcium based fertiliser in order to ensure that the plant gets good nutrition. Make sure to place the fertiliser sticks close the plant so that they are able to derive the nutrition.

  • 4

    Gravel Covering

Once all is set, use small gravel used in gardens for decorative purposes and cover the soil entirely. This will save the soil from floating out of the water. Be sure not to cover the plant with it though. It is also not a bad idea to place a slightly larger stone on the tuber to make sure that the plant does not float out.

  • 5

    Place it in Pond

The pond should ideally be no deeper than two feet. Carefully put the tub in the water. Do not hurry at this stage and let the air bubbles from the soil get out. Slowly let it immerse in the water where it will remain.
