Over the last few centuries, Christmas has become a global festival with people from different parts of the world celebrating the occasion in different styles according to their own culture and traditions. Gingerbread houses are among the most fun traditions followed in some regions as the whole family makes them together. It can be a time consuming effort at times.
Ingredients
  • Egg whites - 2
  • Lemon juice - 1 tbsp
  • Confectioner’s sugar - 1 box
  • Graham crackers - 1 large box
  • Hard Christmas candies - 24
Instructions
  1. The first step towards making a gingerbread houses with graham crackers is to place your Christmas candies in a nice little bowl.
  2. By doing this, you can save yourself from later having to open the candy bags with sticky fingers.
  3. Grab a clean aluminium pie tin and place it upside down in front of you.
  4. Take a large bowl and put egg whites and lemon juice in it before you stir the mixture nicely to make royal icing.
  5. Now you need to add 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar in the mixture and stir it thoroughly.
  6. This icing will be used to strengthen the graham cracker walls of the gingerbread house and ensure that the candy decorations are joined to the surface.
  7. Grab a zipper style freezer bag and put two large spoons of the royal icing in it.
  8. However, you should make sure that the regular sandwich bags are avoided because thin plastic is used in them, which does not help them resist the punishment of being used as pastry tubes.
  9. It is recommended that you use only 1 cup per bag.
  10. You can now seal the bags and make a small cut on any one corner of each bag with some scissors.
  11. Pick 6 un-cracked graham crackers. Form the roof and to make sides of the house by setting 4 of them aside. You can form the end gable pieces by cutting the other two crackers.
  12. You should pour the icing over the edges of the gable and a whole cracker. You should place the long edge of the wall perpendicular to the base edge of the gable end cracker.
  13. While joining the crackers to build the walls, make sure that they hold each other up.
  14. You should now join the wall and other gable end in the same fashion.
  15. The roof crackers can also be added in the same manner.
