How to Play Over the Line

You must have heard about different ball games, but very few people are aware of the sport ‘over the line.’ It is almost like baseball, but the rules are different and the number of players involved are also very less in comparison.

Over the line is quite any easy sport, especially for those who know how to play baseball or softball. The players involved in the game are batters, pitchers and fielders. All you need is a total of six or eight people and you can start having fun in an open area.

Things Required:

– Baseball bat
– Softball

Instructions

    Prepare the field

Mark the batting area, from where the batters can face the pitchers. You can use any marker for this purpose such as a cone, chalk or even a home plate. After doing so, set the foul lines that will determine the boundaries. Although the width of the field should be 55 feet, you can change that as per your liking, especially if you are just playing for fun.

Moreover, draw a perpendicular line from the two foul lines. It should be 55 metres away from the batter, but you can make it shorter, depending on the skill level. Once the batter hits the ball over the line, he/she scores.

    Select pitcher and batting line

Unlike baseball, the batting team has to decide the pitcher from its own side in over the line. Select that person, who will be throwing the ball from sideways rather than facing the batter. Furthermore, select the batting order in which your players will come out and bat.

  • 3

Hit the ball between foul lines

Hit the ball between foul lines thrice to score one point. Make sure you hit the ball over the line otherwise there will be no use.

  • 4

    Score home run

The defender, who will be standing at the farthest distance from you, has to be cleared in order to score a home run. Continue rotating the batters until three of them are dismissed. Once that happens, you have to switch sides with the other team.

Position your players on the field

When you are not batting, position your fielders anywhere on the field. Try catching the balls hit towards you in order to dismiss the batter. If the ball is going for a home run, you can prevent that by running further back away from the ball. However, the opposite team will earn one point in that case.
