How to Make Jewelry from Old Keys
Interior and exterior doors locks need to be replaced from time to time in order to keep the security of your premises updated. This means that keys for the replaced locks become useless and are reduced to being a part of the old keys bunch. Such keys can be put to good use by making different types of jewellery. The task is very easy and one can make use of his/her own creativity to craft unique designs.
Things Required:
– Durable metal glue
– Old keys
– Clothing pin
– Flexible wire and cutters
– Needle nosed pliers

1
Start by finding a base onto which you will be gluing the old key. It can be anything of your choice such as a button or a coin. Since you will be using old keys, use an old base item. Arrange the keys in the desired design and then affix them in the perceived pattern to the base using durable metal glue. Use the same glue to attach a clothing pin to the back of the base. Allow 24 hours for the glue to cure, apply a sealant and wait for another 8 to 12 hours before wearing the jewellery.

Some ornate old keys can be used as charms because they look best without any work at all. Thread a chain that matches the old key’s metal cast through the hole of the key and wear it as a necklace.

Old keys of small size can be used to make earrings. Take two identical old keys and wrap the top of each key with identical pieces of wire. Use a pair of needle nosed pliers for this purpose. Curve each wire to form a hook which you can thread through the hole in your earlobe.

Form a ring out of wire that has two loops. Use a piece of flexible wire and cutters for this purpose. Place the old key of your choice within this wire loop and enclose a loop of your charm bracelet before you close the second wire loop. Make a tight twist in the wire that remains, in order to close the loop. You can now go on and wear the charm bracelet to which you just added an antique flare.

Tiny old keys can be put to good use by fashioning them into stud earrings. Affix a number of tiny keys to metal earring back using sturdy metal glue. Allow at least 24 hours for the glue to harden. At this point, you have to apply the metal sealant. Wait another 8 to 12 hours for the sealant to set before you wear the piece of jewellery. A possible way to reduce the earring weight is to use a plastic earring back.
