How to Dance the Rumba for Beginners

Rumba is a wonderful form of dancing and is loved by people all over the world. Not only does it look beautiful, one can become extremely fit by doing this dance regularly. Therefore, you have to make it a habit and continue performing the rumba with a partner in order to stay healthy.

Even if you are new to dancing, don’t worry as you just need to be confident and start moving your body gracefully. Either you or your partner will have to play the leader whereas the other person will be the follower. There are different steps for both, but they are extremely easy to learn.

    Leaders
    Move your left foot forward

    Slowly move your left foot forward in a way that you don’t look in any haste at all. You will have to mix the slow and quick steps perfectly in order to make the dance look graceful.

    Move your right foot

    Once you have completed the first step and your left foot is motionless, you have to move the right one in a diagonal position from where you had started the dance. Remember this move has to be performed quickly.

    Close your left foot

    Lock your left foot behind the right one. Once again, this step has to be performed swiftly otherwise you will not look graceful at all.

    Move your right foot backwards

    This time, you have to make a slow movement with your right foot, bringing it backwards.

    Bring back the left foot

    Move the left foot diagonally in the same position it was initially, but a bit sideways. Be quick while doing this step.

    Lock your right foot

    Swiftly close your right foot behind the left one and transfer the weight according to the first position you took while starting the rumba.

    Followers
    Step your right foot backwards

    Slowly position your right foot backwards, as soon as your partner makes his/her first move.

    Move the left foot to the side

    Quickly move your left foot sideways. Follow that up by closing your right foot to the left swiftly.

    Move forward on left foot

    Transfer the weight to your left foot and move forward slowly.

    Finish the dance

    In order to end the dance, you have to make a couple of quick movements. First, step to the side with your right foot and lock the left one behind it in one motion.
