How to Roast a Turkey in a Convection Oven

Cooking in convection ovens is quite easy and gives better results too. The main reason behind that is the even distribution of heat in the oven. As a result, you can enjoy a better cooked meal. Moreover, the cooking time in  convection oven is considerably removed, which is a huge convenience in today’s fast-paced world.

Normal food, which doesn’t require much time to be prepared, can be cooked in any oven. However, you have to choose the convection oven while roasting something like a turkey, which consumes a lot of time. Once the meat is cooked, you will notice that it is equally tender from all sides. Depending on the quantity, you will have to change the roasting time or the temperature of the oven.

Things Required:

– Turkey
– Convection oven
– Cooking rack
– Aluminium foil

Instructions

  • 1

    Preheat the oven

It is ideal to preheat the oven to 180 degrees Fahrenheit while you are assembling the rest of the things required to roast the turkey.

  • 2

    Prepare the turkey

Make sure that the turkey is fully prepared before you begin roasting it. You can either stuff it with different ingredients of your choice or simply roast it without experimenting with any other thing. Remember that you will have to roast the meat for half an hour more if you have stuffed it with other items.

  • 3

Cover the wings and drumsticks with aluminium foil

Although convection ovens distribute equal heat to the food, you have to be slightly careful while roasting a turkey. Since the wings and drumsticks get brown quickly, make sure you cover them with aluminium foil before placing the turkey in the oven.

  • 4

Place the turkey in the lowest rack

It is ideal to place the turkey on the lowest rack, as that will give you better results. The heat will be transferred evenly, thus you will not have to worry about changing the position of the turkey like you do in a normal oven.

  • 5

Check internal temperature with a thermometer

Once you have started roasting the oven, check the internal temperature with the help of a thermometer. Even if there is an automatic thermometer present with the oven, checking it manually is more accurate. The temperature should be 180 degrees Fahrenheit towards the thighs and 10 degrees lesser on the opposite side.

  • 6

    Remove when roasted

Once you have shut down the oven, don’t open it again like a normal oven. Simply allow the turkey to roast for 2.5 hours and then remove it before serving.
