How to Drain Fat from Ground Beef

Ground beef is used in numerous recipes, such as pies, pasta, and Mexican food. It has got various nutritional benefits and should be consumed at least four times in a month to balance out the protein intake.

However, there are a few reasons due to which people avoid using ground beef. One of those reasons is the fat content in this form of meat, which is not good for health at all. Rather than quitting the recipe itself, however, one should find ways of draining fat from the ground beef. The process is quite simple and will not cost you anything at all.

Things Required:

– Skillet
– Wooden spoon or silicone spatula
– Colander or mesh strainer

Instructions

  • 1

    Heat the skillet

Place an empty skillet on the stove and warm it on medium heat for a couple of minutes. It should be hot enough to evaporate a drop of water immediately. You can simply check that by dropping some water in the skillet.

  • 2

Put ground beef inside the skillet

Once the skillet is heated properly, add the ground meat to it. Keep it sitting in that position for a couple of minutes and then change its position using a wooden spoon. If you feel that it will burn if kept in the same position, continue stirring it.

  • 3

    Cook the beef until brown

Allow the ground beef to cook for a few minutes. You will notice that its colour has started changing from pink to brown. This is the time when you have to remove it from the skillet. Make sure you do not overheat the meat, as it will burn in that case and you will end up ruining your main recipe in an attempt to eliminate the fat content.

  • 4

    Put meat into colander

After removing the ground beef from the skillet, put it into a colander and press down gently to remove the excess fat. It will be ideal to use a large spoon for this purpose, as that will help in completing your task easily.

  • 5

Rinse ground beef with boiling water

If you feel that the fat content has not been removed properly from the beef, you can further process it to make it healthier for yourself. Simply boil some water and pour it over the beef in a strainer. Allow the water to drain and it will take all of the excess fat with it.
