How to Paint Stripes on a Wall

If you want to add some flair to your otherwise dull walls, then painting stripes is the way to go. You can make thick or thin stripes that run vertical, horizontal or even diagonal. Painting stripes on a wall can be a little challenging but with some guidelines and a little patience you can let your creativity run wild.

Things Required:

– Paint
– Painter’s Blue Tape
– Measuring Tape
– Level
– Paint Brushes
– Paint Roller
– Cloth
– Sponge
– Dishwashing Liquid
– Pencil

    Make a plan:

    The first thing that you will want to do is to make a proper plan for the size and style of stripes that you want to paint on the walls. Be sure to check the length and width of these stripes. It is also important to make a note of the direction that you want the stripes to take. Check the style of the room that you want to paint stripes in to determine the type that will enhance the overall look and feel of that area. Once you have made your plan, be sure to use the measuring tape and get the total surface area dimensions so that you can purchase the right amount paint for the job.

    Apply Tape:

    Cover the areas that are not to get painted with painter’s blue tape. Make sure to properly cover all the trims and edges as well. If there is any type of woodwork, also cover it with the blue tape.

    Clean walls:

    Use some dishwashing liquid and a sponge to gently remove any dirt or debris from your walls. Remember to take your time and get the area nice and clean so that your paint will go on smoothly. Now is a good time to put the cloth on the floor to avoid any spills.

    Mark stripes:

    Mark the stripes using the pencil, level and measuring tape. Make your stripes even and symmetrical to ensure that they are easy to paint. However, it is entirely up to you to choose the size and style of stripes you want to paint.

    Tape edges:

    Now use the painter’s blue tape on the edges of the pencil marks that you had made for the stripes. Take your time and make sure the tape is nice and straight.

    Paint stripes:

    Take the roller with the paint of your choice and gently roll over the taped areas using long slow strokes. Keep going until you have covered the entire area. After an hour or so you can apply a second coat to the area.

    Peel off tape:

    Once everything is dry make sure you peel off the tape to show off your nice painted stripe.
