How to Clean a Kitchen Counter

A kitchen counter is the first thing which gets stained while you are cooking. Fortunately, cleaning kitchen countertops is not very difficult as long as the stains are not allowed to set for a long duration of time. Moreover, the things you will need are inexpensive and readily available which makes this task even simpler.

Things Required:

– Warm water
– Soft cloth
– Dry towels
– Dishwashing liquid detergent
– Baking soda
– Lemon slices
– Household chlorine bleach

Instructions

  • 1

Remove surface dirt, crumbs and leftover food particles from the counter. Use a moist sponge or piece of soft cloth for this purpose.

  • 2

Prepare a mixture of warm water and a few drops of dishwashing liquid detergent. Apply it onto a soft sponge and lightly rub the dirty surface of the counter with it. Let the soapy water sit for a few minutes during which time it would loosen up stubborn stains and any food particles that may have dried on the counter. Thoroughly rinse the counter’s surface with warm water and then use a clean, dry towel to wipe the surface dry.

If the above trick does not work, moisten the counter and then sprinkle a small quantity of baking soda onto it. Rub the soda particles on the stain with a moist cloth, rinse the counter and then dry it as before.

It would be alright to use an all-purpose cleaner and degreaser if the kitchen counter you are cleaning is one of those durable countertops such as solid-surface synthetics and engineered stone.

If you are cleaning a laminated kitchen counter, consider rubbing a slice of lemon vigorously onto the stain, allow approximately 15 minutes for the lemon juice to sit and then rinse the surface. Do not forget to wipe the counter until it is completely dry.

For cleaning a butcher block counter, add 1/2 tsp. of household bleach to 2 quarts of water and apply the mixture onto the stains. Rinse the counter with a moist towel and then wipe it dry. Do not use too much water while preparing the cleaning mixture because it can deform and eventually crack a butcher block counter.
