Instructions

  • 1

    Examine the Penicillin

Before you give any medicine, you should read the label properly and make sure it is not expired. You also need to be particular about the dosage, which can be found out on the internet or by contacting a veterinarian.

  • 2

    Wash your hands properly

Make sure to use an antiseptic soap and thoroughly wash your hands before handling the syringe.

  • 3

    Sterilize the Penicillin bottle

Use rubbing alcohol and cotton to sterilize the penicillin bottle before you open it up and fill the syringe.

  • 4

    Prepare the syringe

Be careful while you prepare the syringe and remove the cap to inspect the needle. Once the cap is off, gently insert the needle in to the bottle of penicillin. Slowly turn the bottle upside down with the needle inside. Make sure to pull the back part of the syringe as you fill in the appropriate amount of penicillin. You will then need to check for any air bubbles by holding the syringe straight up and tapping the sides.

  • 5

    Secure Goat

Once you have prepped the syringe, you will have to properly secure the goat. Secure the animal with a leash and collar and ask an assistant to hold it so that it does not move around while you are trying to give it a shot. If you have a milking stand, you can use it to secure the animal properly as well.

  • 6

Determine the best location for the shot

It is recommended to give the goat a shot in back of the neck or hind legs, depending on the size and weight of the animal.

  • 7

    Inject the Penicillin

It is now time to give the shot to the goat by injecting it slowly. Make sure to pull back on the plunger to check whether you have accidently hit a vein. If you see blood in the syringe, take it out and insert the needle in a different area. You will have to slowly push down on the back part or plunger of the syringe to make sure all the penicillin is injected. Once done, remove the syringe and use a little rubbing alcohol to clean the injected area.
