If you are in the field of engineering and other technical sides, you will be judged by how well you learn things and implement them within your domain and capacity. Commissioned officers working in the engineering field at navy are not required to go through as rigorous military training like officers in others fields are, but things like quality of work, discipline, integrity and hard work will still be considered basic tools that can help them get promoted.

Keep studying in order to make headway. Take different exams in your field in order to let the superiors know you are willing to get a promotion. For instance, you may be asked to go for a Master’s degree after serving for a few years in the engineering side. If you are going to take navy wide exams, make sure you prepare well before deciding on the exam date.
