Refrigeration
Refrigerate the ground beef as soon as you get back from the grocery store. It will slow down the growth of any bacteria in the meat. It should be consumed within two days of refrigeration or should be frozen. The refrigerator should be running on a temperature of 40 degrees Fahrenheit or less. -

Freezing
If you decide to freeze the meat, make sure that you wrap it well in sheets of plastic. A foil can also be used for this purpose. Before placing it in the freezer, ensure that no liquids are dripping out of it as they can spread the bacteria as well as mess up other food. The temperature should not be greater than zero degrees Fahrenheit. It should be good for up to two months. Although some suggest that it can last longer, it is better to consume it at the earliest. -

Thawing Ground Beef
Be sure not to thaw the ground beef at room temperature or by defrosting it in the microwave. Do it in the refrigerator. The process is quite simple. Place it in a pan or a shallow dish and let it sit in the bottom shelf of the refrigerator. This will save the liquids from spreading all over the refrigerator and will not affect the other food products. It should be ready to use in a couple of days’ time. Do keep in mind that unlike most frozen foods, thawing the ground beef under the cold running water is not a good idea. Do know that once the meat has been thawed, it should never be refrozen.
