Pakistan’s Independance Day Overview

14th August 1947 was the date when a country, by the name of Pakistan, acquired independence from the colonial rule. The new Muslim state was emerged after a long struggle. This was the first time when the power was transferred from British Empire to Muslims in a very peaceful manner, although there were several who were against the division of subcontinent into two states, Pakistan and India. During migration from one state to another, thousands of Muslims suffered from inflicted wounds and loss of valuable lives of their loved ones.

The country, Pakistan drew its boundary lines on the atlas with the collaboration of Sindh, Punjab, Baluchistan, Afghan Border States, and Kashmir. Today, Pakistan is considered as one of the biggest Muslim state.  Its emergence on the map as a separate state gave freedom to millions who were striving to practice their religion and culture liberally.

    History of Independence Day:

    The father of the nation Qauid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah brought a massive change in the sub continent. His firm motto and intentions helped him in creating separate Islamic states for the Muslims of sub continent. Thousands of Non Muslims, which includes Hindus and Britishers, were against the idea of an independent nation, but Qauid’s objectives were tough enough to make British Empire agreed on his proposal. With massive oppositions and threat, father of the nation took the initiative and succeeded in drawing the border line across India by covering Sindh, Punjab, Baluchistan, Afghan Border States, and Kashmir regions.

    Importance of Independence Day:

    14th august 1947 has a great sum of significance, because no one was expecting this massive change. People had hope but on the other hand, the threats and opposition disrupted their belief of having an independent nation. Despite the fact of strong interference from the side of Hindus and British, Muhammad Ali Jinnah remained firm and succeeded in having a separate Muslim state. Thousands of people had to sacrifice their home, land and above all, lives. Many died during the period of migration and many had to give up their precious belongings before the movement even started.

    Celebrations on the Independence Day:

    This day is celebrated all over the country with an overwhelming heart. National holiday is declared by the Government of Pakistan.

    In order to pay tribute to the national heroes, flag raising ceremonies and fireworks are organized.
    In Islamabad, the capital city of Pakistan, the main celebrations are scheduled in which the Prime Minister and the President of the state takes part.
    After the flag raising ceremony takes place, the President and the Prime Minister deliver speeches that are broadcasted live on televisions and radio channels.  The speech highlights country’s achievements along with the future goals, in view of Quaid –e-Azam’s principles – unity, faith, discipline.
    Various programs and shows relevant to Independence Day are televised, in which worth remembering efforts of nation’s heroes are mentioned and praised.
    Following ceremonies in Islamabad, various locations in Karachi & Lahore also organize mass celebrations.
    Local TV channels broadcast non stop transmission on the day that include special programs for the day.
    Individuals, especially children are found busy in buying national flags and decorations weeks before the event and houses, schools and other premises are decorated with colorful flags, decorations and lights.
