How to Get Splat Hair Dye Out of the Bathroom Counter

I was experimenting with splat hair dye because it just looked like a fun hair dye to use. I have really dark hair so I was drawn to how bold it was. Unfortunately it wasn’t just bold in my hair, it was bold everywhere. My fingers were pink for at least two days because I was too stubborn to wear gloves. I can’t operate and use those things for some reason. I also managed to get some on my counter top and getting it to come off was unsuccessful.

I’d gotten regular hair dye on the counter top before and while it was difficult to get it out, it would always come out eventually. After scrubbing the counter three to five times it would come out. Splat is very different it stains your hair instead of dying it. The way it comes out of your hair is just washing it over and over and it eventually washes out, takes forever but it comes out. After cleaning my bathroom with various bathroom cleaning products, several different times, it still hadn’t come out. It was lighter but the stain was still going strong.

I had an idea one day and I purchased a box of the powder laundry detergent, the NON color safe kind. The powder was important to me because I knew I would need some type of an abrasive agent. I placed the non-color safe, powdered laundry detergent on the counter top where the stain was, and some bleach, and just let it “soak”. I let it soak for about an hour, and then I went into the bathroom with the rough side of the sponge, and scrubbed the area. Since it had been there so long (I’m guessing) I had to repeat the process about five times. Perhaps that is just how many times it will take from the get go, but I wouldn’t know because it had been there for months. It may sound like a drastic way to get a stain out but unless you can cut the counter top out and squirt some lemon juice and salt on it and stick it in the sun, this is the way to go.

For rougher surfaces like the wall, and on tile floor, the stain wants to come out. Because the bathroom counter is such a smooth surface, the splat sinks right into it. This is where I got the idea for the laundry detergent. I can’t remember what brand of detergent deemed itself “the stain lifter” but that is where I got the idea. All detergents lift stains especially the non -color safe kind.
