Your Resistance to House Cleaning Can Be Overcome

Why is house cleaning one of the most neglected chores even though keeping your house clean is one of the easiest ways to maintain good mental and physical health? Our resistance to house cleaning is universal. Very few people in the world enjoy the task. We come up with a dozens of reasons and priorities that take precedence to house cleaning. Yet when we actually take the time and put the effort into cleaning our houses, we feel an enormous sense of self-gratification. In this blog, I will go over some very helpful cleaning and motivational tips.

We can create a mess very quickly, usually within hours of being home. If you do not address house cleaning on an almost daily basis, the house can turn into a breeding ground for bacteria. In order to overcome the resistance you have to cleaning your home, you will have to be in the right set of mind. Try and schedule an hour or at least a half hour that you will whole heatedly focus on cleaning. You will want to turn your phone and television off to minimize distractions. Within the first 15 minutes of cleaning you will look for an excuse or a more important task to complete. This is when you have to dig deep and resist that urge. A great positive distraction is to listen to music or a podcast on your ipod while cleaning. Hard as it is to believe, it can make house cleaning much more enjoyable.

Being in the right mindset is just the beginning. You will also have to be prepared, the more prepared you are the faster you can get through the house cleaning. It is important to have all of your supplies on or near you, duster, all-purpose cleaner, glass cleaner, etc. I would also recommend carrying a trash bag or small garbage pail with you. This will allow you to keep moving without having to bring trash to garbage pails in other rooms. Once you get start, you should do some prep work by doing some housekeeping in the room that you are starting in. Put clothes away and hang towels up. Once you have cleared everything from the floors and surfaces areas, it will make the actual house cleaning much easier.

As I have mentioned before it is important to have a cleaning checklist. You can make your own or download one from online. Many cleaning companies offer 50 point cleaning checklist that they use to ensure that all of the most important cleaning tasks are competed. By following the checklist, you take out a lot of the thought process that would go into figuring out what actually needs to be cleaned and in what order. Cross tasks off as they are completed, before you know it the house will be clean and nothing will have been missed, like dusting the top of the fridge.

If you follow the steps listed above, you will always have a plan in place when it comes time to clean your house and the resistance to house clean will be significantly lower. If you really want to be adamant about it, skip a workout once a week and set a time that will focus solely on house cleaning.
