Easy Halloween Crafts for Preschoolers
Halloween is the holiday that starts it all. Ushering in autumn, Halloween is the time for fun, family, and festivities. Making simple crafts is a great way to get small children involved. It is also a wonderful way to connect with your child during the holiday season.
Paper plate pumpkin
Supplies:
- Paper plate
- Safety scissors
- Orange paint or orange construction paper
- Black construction paper
- Glue stick
- Small magnet or sticky tack
Instructions:
Step 1: Have your child paint the paper plate orange. Alternatively, you could let them cut pieces of orange construction paper and glue them over the entire plate.
Step 2: From black construction paper, help your child cut out circles for eyes, a triangle for the nose, and a mouth. Glue to the front of the paper plate.
Step 3: Glue a small magnet to the back of the paper plate pumpkin and hang it on the refrigerator, or affix your decoration to the wall with sticky tack.
Balloon ghost
Supplies:
- Helium-filled white balloon
- White plastic garbage bag
- Black washable marker
- Glue
Instructions:
Step 1: Cut a plastic bag into strips about as wide as your finger.
Step 2: Let your child glue the strips to the bottom third of the white balloon all the way around. The strips will hang like tentacles.
Step 3: Help your child draw on a face.
Your balloon ghost is now ready to float along the ceiling.
Egg carton spider
Supplies:
- Egg carton made from recycled material.
- Black spray paint
- Black pipe cleaners
- Heavy thread or sticky tack
- Small pom-poms or googly eyes
- Glue
Instructions:
Step 1: Parents will have to cut the egg cups apart because it may be too difficult for small children to do. Parents will also have to spray paint the individual cups black.
Step 2: Help your child poke four holes down each side of the cup.
Step 3: Insert pipe cleaners into each pair of holes so that you have eight legs. Shape the pipe cleaners to look like spider legs.
Step 4: Glue pom-poms or googly eyes to the body of spider.
Step 4: Make another hole in the center of the egg cup and insert a length of knotted thread from the underside in order to hang your spider from the ceiling. Alternatively, affix your spider to the wall with sticky tack.
Bat cookies
Supplies:
- Chocolate Toaster Pastries
- Cream filled sandwich cookies
- Melted chocolate chips
- Sprinkles and other small assorted candies
Instructions:
Step 1: Cut the toaster pastries in half diagonally. These will be the bat wings.
Step 2: Dip diagonals in melted chocolate and lay them in wing formation on wax-paper lined baking sheet.
Step 3: Dip a sandwich cookie in chocolate and lay it on top of the bat wings. This will be the body of the bat. The melted chocolate acts like glue holding the wings and body together.
Step 4: Before the chocolate dries, decorate with sprinkles and add small colored candies for eyes.
Halloween is a time for fun family crafts that even the smallest member can do. Your child will love seeing your house decorated with crafts that they helped make.
