How to Remove Dog Vomit Odor from Couch
Don’t ask me how I know, but I know. Dog vomit has a very unpleasant smell that remains long after the actual ‘stuff’ has been cleaned up. And if you’re a dog owner, sooner or later you will have to deal with the issue of cleaning it up and removing the smell. If the odoriferous problem lands on a micro-fiber couch with removable cushion covers, then the problem is not to difficult to eradicate. Follow these steps for removing dog vomit odor from couch.
Remove Cushion Cover
Remove the couch cushion cover and check the label to find out if it’s washable. If it is, fill the kitchen sink with room temperature tap water and squirt a little (don’t overdo it on the soap) dish soap or liquid laundry detergent into the water. Immerse the couch cushion cover in the soapy water and let soak for ten minutes. Remove cover from water and rub the smelly spot back and forth with your fingers several times. Drain the soapy water from the sink and refill it with cool water and rinse cover. Drain and rinse in clean water until no soapy residue remains.
Sniff Test
Give the cushion cover the old sniff test. If it still has an odor, repeat the sink washing process again, but this time add one-half cup of white vinegar to the wash water.
While the cover is off the cushion, spray the bare cushion foam with an odor eliminating spray like Fabreze.
Dry Cover
Once the odor is gone, fold the wet cover and place it inside a large colander, then press down with hand ( no wringing) to remove most of the water. Spread a thick towel on the counter and spread cover on towel, roll up and press with hands to remove even more moisture from cover. Do this drying step several times until most of the moisture has been removed. To finish the drying process, spread cover over shower curtain rod or clothes line to air dry. Do not place in the dryer or the cover may shrink.
Non-Removable Cushion Covers
If your couch does not have removable or washable cushion covers, prepare a pan of room temperature water with a little dish soap or liquid laundry detergent. Add one-half cup of white vinegar right from the start of the process so it will not have to be repeated. Dampen a cloth in the soapy water and dab the smelly spot (test on inconspicuous place first). Dab until spot is saturated, then blot with a dry micro-fiber cloth. Dab spot with clean cloth dampened in clean water, then blot with dry cloth. Give it the sniff test and continue dabbing and blotting until odor is gone.
