Obviously, if you are lucky enough to employ a maid, you won’t need any of these tips. But if you’re like the rest of us who have to pick up after ourselves, you can make good use of these fantastic cleaning products. All of them can be found at Wal-Mark, K-Mart, CVS, and most grocery stores.
Swiffer
Most of us have seen the commercials and heard about the swiffer products, but if you haven’t tried them, I completely recommend it. They are a little expensive, but they make cleaning a hundred times easier, and you can always find their products at stores like Wal-Mart and the grocery store.
Swiffer WetJet – This is an amazing alternative to mopping that is safe on all floors. It doesn’t leave you with a mess because the attachments are disposable, and you can buy the pre-mixed cleaning solution for just $3.49 per bottle, and it comes in different scents. The retail starter kit is only $19.99, which includes cleaning pads and a 500mL container of the cleaning solution. Basically, all you have to do spray the area with the cleaning solution, mop over it, and dispose of the cleaning pad. The system is very lightweight and easily stored in cabinets or closets.
Swiffer CarpetFlick – If you have pets or small children, this product is a godsend. It works like a miniature vacuum, sucking up cookie crumbs, cereal, dirt, and grass into a small, removable cartridge. This way you don’t have to pull out your normal vacuum for spot-cleaning, and it is extremely lightweight. The starter kit costs $12.99, and the refill pads come in packs of 12 for less than $5.00.
Woolite
It seems so simple, but I can’t believe that I never tried Woolite products before. I don’t use their laundrey products because they are too expensive, but I definitely use their household cleaning products.
Woolite Pet Stain & Odor Remoover – I couldn’t believe how well this worked when I tried it. I have an older dog, and she can’t hold her bladder as long as she used to, but this product takes care of it almost instantly. Just spray it on the stain, rub it dry with a towel, and both the stain and the odor are no longer detectable. It also works with spilled drinks, and it discourages animals from soiling the same area twice. 22 oz costs $4.49
Woolite Heavy Traffic Foam with Stain Defense – This is a great product to have around when you have kids who are constantly tracking muddy shoes through the house. It lifts deep, dark stains in just a few minutes, and it works great on all types of carpets, though best with synthetic fibers. 22 oz. costs $5.99.
Blue Coral Upholstery Cleaner
This is an amazing product for cars, couches, chairs, and carpets. It has a brush head that allows you to rub at the foam after it has been spraid on stains or spots, and it lifts the stain after about fifteen minutes. It works best if you use it at least twice, then vacuum the area to remove all of the foam. A 22.8 oz aerosol container costs around $7.00.
Greased Lightening Multi-Purpose Cleaner & Degreaser
If you are having trouble keeping your surfaces clean, then Greased Lightening will certainly take that problem away. This cleaner works great on stoves, countertops, microwave ovens, refrigerators, and bathroom appliances. Just spray it, let it sit for two minutes, and wipe the surface clean. I’ve found that it works better with a sponge. A 32 oz bottle costs less than $3.00.
Dirt Devil Jaguar (Cordless Hand Vac)
If you vacuum a lot, you know how much trouble it is to pull it out for little things. You don’t want to drag a heavy object with a long cord out of the closet every time your toddler spills his crackers. The Red Devil Jaguar works great for this. It’s cordless, and its base can be hung from any wall for easy storage. It has a small frontal attachment that allows you to clean under things and in tight spaces, and it has great suction.
