How to Prevent Mildew

Mildew is something that is not particularly pleasant whether it comes on your clothes, in your home, or anywhere else. It does not smell particularly rosy and it seems to come at the most inopportune times. There are ways, however, to remove mildew from your home.

Mildew occurs when mold goes bad. I have yet to come across any sort of mold that is good, but I know that this kind is particularly bad. When mold overgrows in areas that are especially moist, you get this type of mildew. How do you get rid of it? That depends on how quickly you find it and where it is. Rest assured that there are ways to remedy this moldy situation, though.

Once you know that mold or mildew is occurring in your home, you have won the biggest portion of the battle. From here, you just have to ensure that it stops growing. The quickest way to do away with mildew is to do away with the moisture that makes it grow. In general, you probably want to eliminate the moisture in the air. To do this, install air ventilation devices in areas in your home where the mildew is most likely going to occur. Consider bathrooms or laundry areas as problem spots and install air ventilation there.

Mildew often makes its home in places like bathrooms and shower rooms. In particular, it will make itself a nice little home on the walls and tile of your shower. Since these areas have a tendency to stay moist and we have established that moisture breeds mold, you must make sure to squeegee these areas to remove the chance that mildew will grow.

Mildew does not grow particularly well in very well lit areas. If at all possible, make sure to keep the darkness away and have those lamps on at all times. In addition, you might want to consider hanging up your wet towels and wet clothes instead of letting them sit in a pile on the floor. This will give them time to dry and you will not experience an infestation of mildew.

Removing mildew is all about taking preventive action. If you do not allow the mildew to grow, then you will not have a problem. Take away the moisture that it feeds on and you are sure to eliminate your problem. These are the easy steps to lose the mildew and the mold.
