Hidden Dirt: Where is it Hiding in Your Home?

You like to have a clean house. So do I. Your cleaning all the time trying to prevent germs from your family. I know I clean all the time. If you have ever sat and thought about all the work you have done, you will realize that there are a lot of places you may have forgot about. Maybe you didn’t even know it was there. I know there are places in my house that I don’t even think about. After reading an article about how clean is your home, it made me sit down and think. There are all kinds of places I never even thought about dirt. So I decided to write my own article about these yucky places that I have discovered. I hope there useful for you as they were for me.

Sofa Cushions

If your cushions come off then this should be pretty easy for you. Lift up that cushion and tell me what you find. Crumbs, hair, lose change, lost toys. Yeah, you get the point. Get the vacuum out and have at it. When I did this, I couldn’t believe all the stuff that was in there. I would have died from embarrassment if someone else would have looked in there. In my home, I have two couches. One of the couches has cushions that will not come out. I just have my husband move the couch and flip it over for me. I was able to get most of the spots inside with my vacuum hose. Finished it off with a quick vacuum of the whole couch and it was nice and clean.

Air/heat vents

Typically when I am vacuuming the house, I will also do the vents. Well I decided to remove all the vents and stick my vacuum hose as far as it would go and it. To my surprise the vacuum picked up so much dirt. I had thought just vacuuming the top of the vent was good enough but it was not. In my opinion the vents are one of the most important things in the house because they are blowing all the air that you breath.

Pictures on the wall

I’m sure you dust all the pictures on the wall. I know that I do this about once a month or so. But have you ever moved the picture off the wall and looked at all the dirt and dust hiding behind the pictures. I couldn’t believe it when I seen it all. For now on, I will be moving all the pictures off the wall and cleaning. I may be deleting some pictures also, because now it just seems like way to much to clean.

Keyboard

Your keyboard may look clean to you, but in reality it probably is not. While in the store the other day I bought something called canned air. This was such a good buy. I went home and started having fun with it. I placed my keyboard on it’s side and sprayed the air. I was disgusted when I seen all the things come out of there. I clean the top of the keyboard all the time. I was amazed at all the stuff that was hidden in there. I use my keyboard every single day. Imagine all them germs I was parading my fingers over.

Stuffed animals

If you have kids, then you have these. I have three kids and tons of stuff animals. 99% of them have hair. All that hair catches all the dirt that fly’s around your home. I have made it a point to start washing these at least every other month. The ones that get played with often get washed more. I set my washer on the gentle cycle and used cold water. I used color safe detergent and washed them. I lifted my lid, because I’m nosy, and what did I see. Black water. Was not something I wanted to see. I placed them in the dryer on the lowest heat setting and dried them. They all came out looking brand new. For now on, this will definitely be on my list of things to do.

Fridge

I know what your thinking. I clean out my fridge all the time. That’s a great start. Notice the key word there, Start. But did you ever think about cleaning the top of that fridge. The dust that gets up their is unbelievable. In a short amount of time, the dust can build up high. If you are able to pull your fridge out, I suggest doing so and looking at the vents back there. Get your vacuum hose out and go to town. Not only will it be cleaner but the fridge will not have to work as hard in keeping your items cold. This in turn will save you money on your electric bill, and save you money from having to buy a new fridge before your ready to. On your fridge and freezer door there are seals. They keep the doors shut. Look at them seals. I bet they are nasty looking. Use your favorite cleaner and a rag and go to town. I even find that Q-tips will do this job very easy.
