Kid Show Content Review: Shake it Up, Season 1, Ep. 2

Now that they have jobs on “Shake It Up, Chicago,” Rocky and Cece decide to open checking accounts. After the girls spend a bunch of money on themselves, Ty and Deuce point out that the girls are being selfish. The girls decide to take Ty and Deuce out to eat at their favorite restaurant, the Olive Pit.

Gross-Out Humor

After dancing, Cece asks Rocky, “Do you smell that?” Rocky says, “Yea, someone really stinks.” The girls sniff each other, and both of them tell each other, “It’s you!”

Cece and Rocky take part in a food challenge at the Olive Pit so they won’t have to pay for dinner. Later, after dancing, the host of “Shake It Up, Chicago,” buys all of the dancers food from the Olive Pit to thank them for their hard work. He takes a plate of meatballs over to the girls, and says, “You gotta’ taste these meatballs.” Rocky looks like she might get sick, and says, “I think I’m starting to taste them right now.”

While trying to finish a big plate of spaghetti and meatballs to win a food challenge, Rocky and Cece eat the same noodle, and almost kiss.

Materialism

Gary, the host of “Shake It Up, Chicago,” makes the dancers beg for their paychecks. He holds the checks up in the air and tells the dancers, “Jump, jump like you’re dolphins and I have a bucket of sardines.”

When the girls get their cash, they throw the money up in the air and roll around in it on the floor. Cece’s mom comes into the room and starts rolling around in the money, too.”

Positive Messages

When the girls realize that they have been spending all their money on themselves, they decide to be more generous. They take Ty and Deuce out to eat, but don’t have enough money to cover the bill. Rocky enters an eating challenge that, if won, will make their meals free, but the girls have to cheat in order to win.
