Food Review: Casa Di Bertacchi Meatballs

I recently had the delicious opportunity to try Casa Di Bertacchi Authentic Italian-Style Meatballs, which are among the tasty new selections from Rich Products Corporation. As someone who is part Sicilian (my dad actually makes meatballs from scratch!), I wasn’t sure how these frozen meatballs would fare on my part-Italian tongue.

The Casa Di Bertacchi meatballs that I tried came in a 6-pound bag – more than enough to feed roughly 32 people, with each meatball coming in at about 5/8 of an ounce. I originally realized that, given their size (about the size of a ping pong ball, perhaps), these meatballs can make perfect appetizers. Though, they are also ideal for throwing into any pasta dish. Plus, they are fully cooked, so they are really easy to prepare.

One of the many things that I like about these meatballs is that they really don’t taste like they have lots of spice in them – which means they can be added to just about any dish and be seasoned to suit both your personal tastes as well as the type of meal of which they are a part. From Swedish meatballs to barbecue plates, these meatballs can go into just about anything you cook.

I originally tried the meatballs plain, because I wanted to see what they taste like by themselves, without any extras. Their flavor alone is delicious, and I didn’t find them to be dry, too – a problem I’ve noticed that many frozen meat products have when they are cooked in a microwave (as I did with them; 1 minute in an 1100-watt microwave, placed around a microwave-safe dish and topped each with 1 TBSP of water).

If you prefer to cook them in a conventional oven, you may do so, too. Just place the frozen meatballs in an oven-safe baking dish in a single layer for 30 to 35 minutes.

You can also cook Casa Di Bertacchi meatballs on the stovetop in a saucepan, covered with your favorite sauce (mine’s marinara!). Bring the sauce to a low boil over medium heat, stirring frequently. Reduce the sauce to medium-low heat for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring every so often.
