The Latest Trends in Video Game Accessories This Season

As we prepare to welcome PlayStation 4 and Xbox One to the gaming world, it’s becoming increasingly clear that video game technology will only continue to evolve, and that includes some of the latest accessories.

From the original PlayStation to the fourth generation and everything between, video games have come a long way, and the accessories for these consoles continue to make gamers feel that they’re actually in the game.

Take a look at some of the latest trends in video game accessories this season.

Cameras

Gone are the days when headsets were the vital source of communication for gaming-today, Microsoft and Sony have taken communication and interactivity to the next level with cameras.

Nintendo really started it with the Wii, creating a gaming system that lets the user really interact. Microsoft followed that up with Kinect, which allows players to essentially act as the controller, as their movements are mirrored on the screen. For their fourth generation, Sony has joined the competition, offering a PS4 camera accessory, which boasts facial recognition and hosts certain games that can be used like the Kinect can.

According to IGN.com, Kinect will come standard with Xbox One, but PS4 users will have to pay $59.99 for the accessory.

Charge-and-Play Kits

I don’t know about you guys, but one of the worst gaming experiences is when your controller dies mid-play. It always seems to happen to me when I have someone lined up for a clean snipe in Call of Duty.

One of the most popular video game accessories this season is going to be the charge-and-play kits. You can charge your controllers when you’re not using them, that way they’re good to go when you’re ready to get your game on.

Hooray for no more AA batteries.

These charging kits are available for both PS4 and Xbox One and can be found at your local Best Buy or another electronics store. GameStop lists the PS4 charging kit for a mere $29.99 on their website, making this one of the smartest accessory purchases.

Sound Towers

Personally, I don’t need to have the best sound system out there to go with my gaming, but for those that do, feast your eyes on this bad boy, via Best Buy.

This surround sound tower is wireless, so there’s one less wire to worry about. It boasts Dolby 5.1 surround sound and is sure to make you feel like you’re in the game.

A lot of people buy their gaming system to coincide with their previously existing surround sound system that they use with their TV, but this could be a new wave of accessory that we start to see companies develop. More and more people are buying sound systems to support their gaming, and I really think this is a trend that can take off as we approach 2014.
