3 Must-have Dog Bathing Supplies
Whether your dog enjoys bath time or not it’s likely a chore that you wouldn’t mind skipping. I love my dog dearly, but bath time isn’t something I look forward to. However, over the last several years I have managed to find ways to make bath time a little more enjoyable for me and my dog.
The first step to an enjoyable bath time is making sure you have the right supplies on hand to make your job easier, and to make your dog as comfortable as possible. Here are three of the must-have bath time supplies I use for my dog.
Bath mat
My 7-year-old beagle, Daisy has had surgery on both of her back legs to repair ACL injuries, which left her a little unstable on her feet. Being unstable on a slippery, wet surface makes her uncomfortable, so she is uneasy while in the bath. I decided to purchase the “Ginsey ASPCA Decorative Pet Bath Mat” from Amazon.com for her to stand on while she’s in the bath tub, and I have to say it is great. It’s large enough for her, it’s padded, and it has suction cups on the bottom to hold it in place. A bath mat is absolutely number one on my must-have list.
Spray nozzle
I remember bathing the family dogs when I was a child, and I always hated having to fight with a cup while trying to wrestle the dog at the same time. When my husband and I adopted our dog I knew that wasn’t something I wanted to put up with again. Luckily, I didn’t have to worry because we had a removable shower nozzle. While it is something we already had I still consider it a must-have for bathing a dog. The sprayer gives me better control over the angle of the water, the force of the water, and allows me to keep one hand on the dog at all times.

Shampoo brush
Daisy is a beagle, so she has a short, slick coat, and because her coat is so short it can be difficult to ensure that the soap is getting down through all of her hair to her skin. It’s like all of her hair bands together to form a protective layer, so I decided to try a shampoo brush. These are little rubber items that are covered in a number of rubber fingers. I use a shampoo brush sold by KONG when giving Daisy a bath, and it does a wonderful job. In fact, I think the fingers even give her a bit of a massage as I clean her.
Bathing your dog may not be fun, but it doesn’t have to be stressful. These simple, inexpensive items help me make bath time more enjoyable for me and my dog.
