Stores Open on Thanksgiving Day 2013 for Black Friday Sales

I’ve been doing something fun: searching for phrases like “doors open” and “Black Friday” and “Black Thursday” and “Thanksgiving Day” and the like in order to come up with the following list of stores whose Black Friday really has transformed into Black Thursday, that is, Thanksgiving Day 2013.

Here are seven stores planning to open on Thursday, November 28, 2013:

#1 – Target

Target stores will open at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving, so says this official Target press release, much to the chagrin of some workers who’ve been starting petitions to try and keep Black Friday actually on Friday and not creep into their holiday hours with their families.

#2 – Walmart

Walmart “will hold Black Friday events at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving and 8 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 29,” says the corporate division of the large retailer.

#3 – Toys “R” Us

Toys “R” Us is a big one for parents looking to make Christmas 2013 a banner year for their kids under the tree. To that end, Toys”R” Us stores will plan to open nationwide at 5pm on Thursday, November 28, says their official press release. This is three hours earlier than the retailer opened the previous year.

#4 – Best Buy

“Shop when stores open at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, November 28,” says Best Buy’s website, something that’s also mimicked on their various mobile store’s webpages.

#5 – Kmart

The page titled “Black Friday 2013: Find the Best Black Friday Deals at Kmart” says the retailer will have in-store Thanksgiving Day deals going as early at 6 a.m.

Not all Sears and Kmart stores will be open on Thanksgiving Day, however, excluding stores in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine and Puerto Rico per their laws.

#6 – Sears

Speaking of Sears, those stores will open (minus the above-mentioned locales) at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, all the way through 10 p.m. on Black Friday, with deals available up until 1 p.m. Friday afternoon.

#7 – Macy’s

Most Macy’s stores will open at 8 p.m. Thanksgiving evening, so says the company.

Woo!

With all that research into some of the major stores that plan to open on the holiday, I envision too much melee and too many long lines to want to join any of the shoppers, even if there are good deals on iPad Air tablets abounding.

Inevitably, news reports about violence during Black Friday sales tend to make this reporter want to stay safely ensconced at home, preferring to write about the sales and the Cyber Monday deals to follow.

Heck, web sales are predicted to be through the roof this year anyway, especially since shoppers can buy eyeglasses online, crazy inventions on Quirky.com and almost any gift they can think of – as long as the price is right and fits their checking account balance.

Stay safe, you brave Black Friday shopping souls.
