Vitamins/Supplements for Men Used to Maintain a Healthy Mind, Body and Soul

In a perfect world, men would get all the nutrients their body needed through the food they eat. Unfortunately, this is just not possible.

Per the USDA, “men aged 31 to 50 needs to eat 350% more dark green vegetables and 150% more fruit per day in order to meet federal dietary guidelines. In fact, men have deficits in nearly every nutritional category.” Various types of vitamins and supplements can be taken to make up this shortfall.

At a minimum, men should consider taking the following vitamins and supplements,

Vitamin D3

Vitamin D3 is important because it helps build strong bones and supports the immune system and colon health. It is also used to treat arthritis, tooth decay, and diabetes. It is linked to preventing various types of cancers. It is also helpful with blood pressure and treating osteoporosis,

Calcium

Calcium is necessary to build and maintain strong bones. It also contributes to maintaining healthy heart muscles and nerves. Studies have shown that taking calcium with vitamin D aides in the prevention of cancer, high blood pressure and diabetes.

Magnesium

Magnesium promotes bone and muscle health. It may also reverse osteoporosis, prevents cardiovascular disease, regulates high blood pressure, treats diabetes and also treats the symptoms of depression, and treats migraines and insomnia. It has also been known to help with panic attacks, stress and anxiety.

Selenium

Selenium helps promote a healthy immune system. It may also be effective in preventing cataracts and macular degeneration. When taken with vitamin E, Selenium has some anti-inflammatory benefits as well.

Coenzyme Q10

CoQ10 has proven to be effective with the treatment of angina. Doctors have found that by combining CoQ10 with antianginal therapy the generation of free radicals is suppressed. It has also proven to be helpful by protecting the heart from surgery induced stress.

There are many different brands of vitamins. Some popular brands are Nature’s Bounty, Nature Made and Sundown. Some pharmacies carry their own brand of vitamins that are just as effective. For example, CVS carries their own brand of vitamins and if you are cost conscience, they often have buy one get one free specials on their brand.

Many of the vitamins listed above can be found in a multi-vitamin so don’t panic, you don’t have to take all of these separately.
