Profile of Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez was born in the Bronx, New York on July 24, 1970. She was born to parents of Puerto Rican descent, which has
blessed her with her trademark Latina beauty and her signature, shall we say, backside.

She has many accomplishments not only as a singer and dancer, but as today’s leading Latina actress as well.

Her filmography is impressive and boasts a “who’s who” list of directors, it also proves that she is a major contender in the acting arena. She made her film debut in My Little Girl (1986), followed by her TV appearances as one of the dancing fly girls, In Living Color (TV series) (1990-1992).

Her acting credits are as follows:

Jennifer Lopez began her career in musicals and dance as a child. Taking singing and dancing lessons since the age of five, there is no doubt that the training of Jennifer Lopez’s beginnings have since been rewarded. But that isn’t to imply that this woman hasn’t paid her rightful dues.

After her film debut in My Little Girl, it was still four years before she landed her her role as “fly girl”. During that time, Jennifer had finished high school, attended college, and then dropped out only after one semester.

It was most likely her role as Selena (Selena Quintanilla Perez) which endeared her to the hearts of Hispanics and non-Hispanics alike. The tragic killing of the beautiful Mexican-American singer saddened many, and Jennifer’s portrayal of her has left many spellbound.

Her accomplishments have been many and well varied. Not only is she well known for her dancing, and acting abilities, but Jennifer Lopez is also an accomplished singer. She released her first album, “On the 6” in 1999 and her former relationship with Puff Daddy showed that not only was she a “Latin singer”, but could hold her own in the R&B category as well.

Her relationship with Puff Daddy (Sean Combs) ended and she thrilled gossip seekers with her on and off again engagement to Ben Affleck, which gave her the not so great nickname, Bennifer. Their engagement and relationship ended in January 2004.

Now, fortunately for Jenny’s fans (after her and Ben’s tragic demise) she is referred to as J-Lo or Jenny from the Block. Jennifer is no stranger to love, and was sure to bounce back quickly. On June 5, 2004 she married Marc Anthony and they are still married today. This is her third marriage; she was married to Ojani Noa from 1997-98 and Cris Judd from 2001-02.

Jennifer Lopez has many other accomplishments to add to her impressive resume. She has her own clothing line, Sweetface Fashion Company which was founded in April 2001. The success of the company has gone on to create the JLO products, as well as her signature fragrance, Glow, a tremendously popular women’s cologne. Her J-Lo line consists of lingerie, swimwear, fragrances, accessories, girls clothing line, a plus size clothing line, and
a ready to wear line.

It has been said that not since Rita Hayworth, has a Latina actress headlined in a Hollywood movie. Jennifer Lopez has put the face of Latina culture on the map, and has proved that she is here to stay.
