Planning a Destination Wedding?
Tell your family and friends as soon as you decide on a destination for your wedding. By letting the potential bridal party know early, those who don’t have the resources to attend can bow out early and gracefully. Once you’ve booked and confirmed your location send out the save-the-date cards. This way guests will have enough time to make their reservations.
2. Stay Calm
Don’t be surprised if some of your closet friends or relatives can’t be there on your big day. While you may plan on sharing some of their travel cost, your wedding maybe a bigger expense than your guests can afford. Let’s not also forget that they may have office commitments or children’s school calendars that may conflict with your plans. With more and more people on “limited vacations” your destination wedding may not be the one for them!
3. K.I.S.S.
Keep It Simple Sweetie – If you are getting married in Mexico during the hottest time of year, your great-aunt’s stunning wedding gown, with the thousand pearls, and 8 layers of satin and tulle might be overkill. The last thing you’ll need is to look like you are drowning in perspiration, as you are walking down in aisle! Keep your location in mind when choosing your dress.
4. What time again?
Sometimes 3 pm isn’t exactly 3 pm. Don’t forget that in many tropical locations, starting on time isn’t a given. 3 pm can easily be 3:30ish! Your ceremony will be just as beautiful, still memorable, just a little later than you planned.
5. Fed-Ex Anyone?
You invited 50 people and half of them brought gifts, now what? Since you planned ahead with your wedding consultant or Hotel in advance there is no problem. You’ve already arranged for all of the gifts to be shipped backed home the day before you leave. Or for those of you with awesome negotiating powers, your nearest and dearest will be bringing all those gifts home for you.
6. The Perfect Hostess
Welcome your guests with a gift basket full of goodies they can use on the trip, or things that are special to you and your fiancÃ?©. It’s a nice touch to personalize your baskets with information about your wedding; most of your guests will probably keep them as keepsakes of your destination wedding.
