Working at School

Adapting to college life is only as hard as one makes it, but having a job would probably make things a little easier as far as money and social living goes.¯¿½¯¿½

JobsÃ?¯Ã?¿Ã?½are not easy to find as timeÃ?¯Ã?¿Ã?½in the semester moves on, so it’s always advantageous to start looking forÃ?¯Ã?¿Ã?½a job as soon as your parents drop you off at yourÃ?¯Ã?¿Ã?½dorm.Ã?¯Ã?¿Ã?½ Of course, you need to start looking, but now the question is where to look.Ã?¯Ã?¿Ã?½ On-campus jobsÃ?¯Ã?¿Ã?½are bountiful, but taken early by students with financial aid.Ã?¯Ã?¿Ã?½ If those are the jobs you desire thenÃ?¯Ã?¿Ã?½the best course of action is to go toÃ?¯Ã?¿Ã?½your school’s financial aid office and get a list of jobs to choose from.

For those of you who don’t have financial aid, your hunt for a job gets a little bit trickier.Ã?¯Ã?¿Ã?½ Most on-campus jobs areÃ?¯Ã?¿Ã?½(FWS) federal work study jobs andÃ?¯Ã?¿Ã?½you cannot apply if thatÃ?¯Ã?¿Ã?½is something you are not qualified for.Ã?¯Ã?¿Ã?½ So now the huntÃ?¯Ã?¿Ã?½continues into the small or large town that surrounds your college/university.Ã?¯Ã?¿Ã?½Ã?¯Ã?¿Ã?½

WhileÃ?¯Ã?¿Ã?½students with federal or state aid do get jobs sooner, those jobs usually yield less money.Ã?¯Ã?¿Ã?½ University towns and cities are one with the schools they represent, and usuallyÃ?¯Ã?¿Ã?½like to hire students who attend their local school.Ã?¯Ã?¿Ã?½ They also payÃ?¯Ã?¿Ã?½wellÃ?¯Ã?¿Ã?½because they are jobs listed by actual companies with income, not state-funded aid programs.Ã?¯Ã?¿Ã?½ Finding jobs in town usually isn’t too difficult, but it all depends on whatÃ?¯Ã?¿Ã?½a studentÃ?¯Ã?¿Ã?½would prefer to do to make ends meet.

Finally,¯¿½ It is not that tough to find work on-campus or off as long as the student is on the¯¿½ball.¯¿½ Looking for these jobs early will be very beneficial and may prove to give you something to fall back on for the entire time you attend an institution of higher learning.
