Vegetarian Diner Begins Food Drive for Hurricane Victims

Spiral Diner in Fort Worth, TX is preparing to establish the restaurant as a drop-off point for vegan food to be delivered to shelters in the DFW area who are housing hurricane refugees.

“If anyone wants to start bringing in food now we will gladly accept it,” said Amy McNutt, owner of the restaurant. “These people need good healthy food for sustainable energy.”

Spiral Diner, Tarrant County’s first and only vegan restaurant is located at 1314 W. Magnolia Street on the corner of 6th Avenue and Magnolia in Fort Worth South. The restaurant was chosen as one of the top 15 vegetarian restaurants in North America by Veg News Magazine.

Hours of operation are T-Sat., 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday 11-5. They are closed on Mondays for special events and monthly meetings and have all-you-can-eat pancake breakfasts on Sundays. Among items served are coffee and espresso drinks, smoothies, dips, pastas, entrees, desserts, sandwiches, and salads among other delicacies. Spiral Diner is 100 percent vegan and a mostly organic restaurant. They also encourage customers to bring their own reusable containers with them to help reduce packaging waste. The diner recycles 100 percent of all accepted materials that come through their kitchen and donate a portion of profit to local grassroots organizations fighting for human, animal, and environmental causes.

They reduce waste by purchasing in bulk as much as possible and donating excess food to local food banks and shelters.

According to the Spiral Diner’s webpage many people eliminate animal foods from their diet because of health concerns and other people become vegan out of concern for animal welfare. Spiral Diner literature states that a vegan diet is the healthiest and most humane choice for animals, people, and the planet.
