Since there are so many students at Amber’s school they have designed a number of classes for everyone. Pre-Dance is meant for 3-5 year olds. Pre-Dance offers exercise and motivation for young children interested in dance. It also teaches them rhythm, movement, coordination, and timing. Children enrolled in Pre-Dance are expected to learn the basics of tap and ballet within two years.

Recreational dance is meant for people who wish to enjoy dance. Recreational classes are all non-competitive, meaning that they do not go to state or national events. The recreational class members do get a chance to show off their talents in the two semi-annual recitals held by Amber Perkins School of the Arts. I was enrolled in a recreational tap class, and we did perform in the spring recital.

The intensive dance program is meant for serious dancers. The classes are competitive meaning the dancers enrolled go to state and national championships. Often times, dancers from Amber Perkins School of the Arts win first place in all or many of the categories. Dancers interested in the intensive program must have taken at least 2 ballet classes, 2 technique classes, and 1 modern class before they can be considered for the program. All participants must show a great amount of dedication and preservation toward the art of dance. After you have been accepted into the intensive program you may be offered a free production class. This free class is for the best of the best students and acceptance is only granted by your teacher.

I have had a chance to watch some of the intense dance program classes. The students are very much focused on dance and perfecting their art. The teachers are super supportive to all the students whether they are just a small child or an adult. Often I felt like the intense classes were too much for me. But if you are serious about dancing than they are perfect for you.
