Creating Different Photo Effects in Fireworks – Part 1

There are many different effects that you can apply to photos in Fireworks. Everything from turning a color picture to black and white to adding borders to your photos. In this guide I will show you how to do the different photo effects. The effects we will cover are:
Creating a Border Around Your Photos
Creating a Negative Effect to Your Photos
Creating Photos To Look Like Pencil Drawings
Creating Photos with an Old Photo Look
Creating Photos with a Black & White Look

Creating a Border Around Your Photos

Creating a border around your photo can add a little fanciness to your photo. To get started follow the steps below.

1. Open a photo in fireworks that you want to use.
2. Draw a square or rectangle over the photo and make it the same size of the photo.
3. Now look down in your properties window and change the color fill to no color. Then change the outline to black or whatever color you wish to use. You should now be able to see your photo through the square.
4. With the square you just drew selected, look down in your properties window and locate the stroke category. Click on that to choose what type of border you want. You can go through them and change the colors to get the border the way you want it. You can also play around with the edge softness and size. And that is all there is to creating borders.

In my example (image 1) I used the following:
Stroke Category – Viscous Alien Paint
Color – White
Size – 14
Edge Softness – 50
Texture – 0

Creating a Negative Effect to Your Photos

Have you ever seen a photo with a negative look to with? Those look really cool. Follow the steps below to turn your photo into the negative look.

1. Open the photo up in fireworks that you want to use.
2. Click the image so that it is selected. In your properties window click on Effects > Adjust Color > Hue/Saturation.
3. In the box that popped up enter the following: Hue -180, Saturation -100, Lightness -7, and uncheck Colorize. Click OK
4. Now look in your properties window and click on the Blend Mode option and change it to Difference.

Now you should have the negative effect. Make sure that your canvas is white, if not it will not work. To do this, Go to Modify > Canvas > Canvas Color and change the color to white. See image 2 to see how the photo will look.

Creating Photos To Look Like Pencil Drawings

This is a really cool effect. You can change the photo to make it look like a pencil drawing. This is neat to print out and hang up. To get started follow the steps below.
