Creating a Sketch Photo from a Color Photo in Adobe Photoshop
Step 1 – Open your Photoshop program.
Step 2 – Create a new file in Photoshop.
Step 3 – Open the image that you want to use. You can use any image you like. In my example I used a picture of a dolphin.
Step 4 – Go to your “Layers” Panel and locate the original copy of your image.
See Image 1
Step 5 – Right Click on the original image in the layers panel and select Duplicate Layer.
Step 6 – A dialog box will appear. Type in a name for that layer. In my example I used Dolphin 2.
Step 7 – Click on the duplicate layer to highlight it.
Step 8 – In the top of your Photoshop window click Image > Adjustments > Desaturate. This will turn your image gray.
See Image 2
Step 9 – Click on the duplicate layer to highlight it. Right click on the layer and choose Duplicate Layer. Give this layer a name when the dialog box pops up. In my example I used Dolphin 3.
Step 10 – Click on the layer you just duplicated to highlight it. (Dolphin 3)
Step – 11 In the top of your Photoshop window click Image > Adjustments > Invert.
Step 12 – Click on the layer you just inverted (Dolphin 3) to highlight it.
Step 13 – In the top of your layers panel where it says “Normal”, drop that list down and select Color Dodge. This will turn your image white.
Step 14 – Click on the color dodge layer (dolphin 3) to highlight it.
Step 15 – In the top of your Photoshop window click Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur. A dialog box will pop up. In the bottom of that box you will see Radius. Play around with that to get the image as dark or as light as you would like it. The Radius on my image is an eleven.
See Image 3 for the final results.
