Fireworks: Creating Different Borders Around Photos

Fireworks is a nice program to use to create borders around your photos. There are many borders that can be added to photos in Fireworks. Using Fireworks to add borders to your photos can give your photo that nice touch. So in this guide I will show you how to add some of those borders to your photos. In this guide I will show you how to do the following:

How to Create Lumpy Borders, Small and Big
How to Create Torn Paper Borders, Small and Big
How to Create Dot Borders, Small and Big
How to Create Line Borders, Straight and Diagonally

So Let’s Begin.. Shall We…

How to Create Big Lumpy Borders

Step 1 – Open your Fireworks 8 Program.

Step 2 – Open the image up that you want to use. Click File > Open and select your image.

Step 3 – Click on your image with the pointer tool to select it.

Step 4 – In the bottom of your Fireworks 8 window, locate your properties window.

Step 5 – Click the little Plus Sign beside Filters. When the menu pops up click Alien Skin Splat LE > Edges. The Alien Skin Dialog box will pop up.

Step 6 – At the top of the dialog box you will see Edit , Filter, View, Settings, and Help. Click on Settings and select Ink Spill. Enter the following values:

Edge Width = 20
Margin = 8
Feature Size = 10
Edge Mode = Lumpy
Color = Select the color of your choice.

Now click OK.

Now you have your Big Lumpy Border. To create your Small Lumpy Border, follow steps 1-6 and enter the following values:

Edge Width = 13
Margin = 2
Feature Size = 3
Edge Mode = Lumpy
Color = Select the color of your choice.

Then Click OK
And that creates your Small Lumpy Border in Fireworks 8.

How to Create Big Torn Paper Borders

Step 1 – Open your Fireworks 8 Program.

Step 2 – Open the image up that you want to use. Click File > Open and select your image.

Step 3 – Click on your image with the pointer tool to select it.

Step 4 – In the bottom of your Fireworks 8 window, locate your properties window.

Step 5 – Click the little Plus Sign beside Filters. When the menu pops up click Alien Skin Splat LE > Edges. The Alien Skin Dialog box will pop up.

Step 6 – At the top of the dialog box you will see Edit , Filter, View, Settings, and Help. Click on Settings and select Dot Edge. Enter the following values:

Edge Width = 27
Margin = 13
Feature Size = 2
Edge Mode = Torn Paper
Color = Select the color of your choice.

Then Click OK

To create your Small Torn Paper Border, follow steps 1-6 and enter the following values:

Edge Width = 15
Margin = 3
Feature Size = 2
Edge Mode = Torn Paper
Color = Select the color of your choice.

Click OK

That is how you create Big and Small Torn Paper Borders in Fireworks 8.

How to Create Big Dot Borders

Step 1 – Open your Fireworks 8 Program.

Step 2 – Open the image up that you want to use. Click File > Open and select your image.

Step 3 – Click on your image with the pointer tool to select it.

Step 4 – In the bottom of your Fireworks 8 window, locate your properties window.

Step 5 – Click the little Plus Sign beside Filters. When the menu pops up click Alien Skin Splat LE > Edges. The Alien Skin Dialog box will pop up.

Step 6 – At the top of the dialog box you will see Edit , Filter, View, Settings, and Help. Click on Settings and select Dot Edge. Enter the following values:

Edge Width = 46
Margin = 1
Feature Size = 70
Direction = 0
Edge Mode = Halftone Dots
Color = Select the color of your choice.
Click OK.

To create your Small Dot Edge Border, follow steps 1-6 and enter the following values:

Edge Width = 30
Margin = 3
Feature Size = 21
Direction = 140
Edge Mode = Halftone Dots
Color = Select the color of your choice.

Then Click OK and you’re done!!

How to Create Straight Line Borders

Step 1 – Open your Fireworks 8 Program.

Step 2 – Open the image up that you want to use. Click File > Open and select your image.

Step 3 – Click on your image with the pointer tool to select it.

Step 4 – In the bottom of your Fireworks 8 window, locate your properties window.

Step 5 – Click the little Plus Sign beside Filters. When the menu pops up click Alien Skin Splat LE > Edges. The Alien Skin Dialog box will pop up.

Step 6 – At the top of the dialog box you will see Edit , Filter, View, Settings, and Help. Click on Settings and select Thick Lines. Enter the following values:

Edge Width = 35
Margin = 2
Feature Size = 50
Direction = 90
Edge Mode = Halftone Lines
Color = Select the color of your choice.

To create your Diagonal Line Border, follow steps 1-6 and enter the following values:

Edge Width = 35
Margin = 1
Feature Size = 65
Direction = 45
Edge Mode = Halftone Lines
Color = Select the color of your choice.

Then Click OK and you’re done!!

As you can see, adding borders to your photos can be done fairly easy in Fireworks 8. Play around with the Alien Skin Effect to create different type of borders around your photos. By changing the values of the Edge With, Margin, Feature Size, etc. you can create all kinds of borders.
