Aveeno Intense Relief Hand Cream Reviewed

I’m relatively new to the Aveeno products. Even though they have been around for years now, my first experience with any Aveeno product was last year. I had wonderful results with the natural oatmeal lotions, yet had horrific results with the daily moisturizer. With that in mind, I really didn’t know what to expect if I happened to try another product. However, when looking for some hand cream, something about the tiny bottle of Aveeno Intense Relief Hand Cream appealed to me. Maybe it was because it was such a small bottle. I don’t really need hand cream except for during the winter months and the size seemed just right. It could have been because I still use the natural oatmeal lotion and I love it. Whatever the reason really was, I decided to give Aveeno another chance and try out a new product.

ABOUT AVEENO INTENSE RELIEF HAND CREAM

Aveeno Intense Relief Hand Cream is of course a cream intended to relieve dry hands and leave hands feeling soft, natural, and healthy looking. It promises to last through hand washings, last 24 hours, and not feel greasy. The cream comes in an oatmeal colored tube (probably because of the collodial oatmeal in the cream, and to give it the authentic “earth” type look) with purple bold print on the front that can be read clearly. The tube it 3.5 ounces and have a flip top for easy squeezing. Similar to almost all the other Aveeno product, Aveeno Intense Relief Hand Cream is dermatologist recommended. I paid $5.99 for the cream at Walgreens. That seemed very steep to me considering the small size. So, yes it is definitely pricey but then again, most Aveeno products are.

MY EXPERIENCE

This winter my hands were a bit drier this season than ever before. Sometimes I can get away with using regular lotion, but I knew I was going to need something “intense” to get my hands softer. Anyways, on my first application I was happy (extremely happy). I could feel the difference almost immediately. My hands were immediately softer and to my relief, the smell was non existent. I can handle certain lotion smells, but for a hand product there really isn’t any reason to have scent in my opinion. Perfume smelling lotions could end up drying your hands out even more instead of moisturizing them (well not all, but it has been my experience that scented hand lotions never work as well as they claim). So now that the scent was o.k. and the lotion seemed to work great, I decided to test out the promise that washing your hands would not affect the cream. I washed my hands and amazingly the cream was still in high intense working mode. My hands still felt soft. A few hours later I washed my hands again. This time my hands were not as soft but I could still and feel the softness from the cream. I didn’t apply any cream for 24 hours and I have found that in my experience it does not last 24 hours. Towards the end of the evening my hands started getting dry again. When I applied the cream the problem was immediately rectified, so that really wasn’t a big deal to me.
Finally, it doesn’t take much of this cream to work (even on the roughest hands). A friend of mine has a problem with her hands that makes her look like a snake shedding its skin. I let her try some of my cream in hopes it would help her and convince her to buy some for herself. For both of us, we have found that only a small dime sized amount is all that is really needed to cover and soften both hands. Her hands did not automatically clear, but there was a noticeable difference. The cream is pretty thick ( and white) but it is easily absorbed. It doesn’t feel a bit greasy and is really quite natural feeling (and smelling). Another wonderful thing about the cream is that it won’t burn your hands when you apply it. Some lotions just have way too many scents and perfumes in them to be a hand lotion, and they usually end up burning and stinging chapped hands. Aveeno has once again impressed me by creating a product that is perfect.

FINAL RECOMMENDATION

My hands look and feel soft and natural as I write/type this review. This was not the case 3 days ago. Aveeno Intense Relief Hand Cream truly does provide intense relief. The cream provides relief yet does it in such a natural way that you really don’t even notice you have applied cream to your hands. There is no offensive medicine smell, there is no greasy type feeling, and only a minimal amount is needed in order to get results. The only thing wrong with this cream is the price. However, if you really want a good hand cream, the price is worth it. I don’t think I would ever pay this price for a hand cream but I had a feeling about this cream and my instincts were right. I will continue to use Aveeno Intense Relief Hand Cream and I would 100% recommend this product.
