Denver’s Live Music Venues: Bars and Restaruants for Country and More

I can personally vouch for Sambuca. The atmosphere is airy, the wait staff is personable, knowledgeable and helpful, and the night I visited, the music was eclectic.

In 1991, brother and sister, Kim and Holly Forsythe introduced their restaurant to the Dallas area. The idea was to pair delicious food with great musical talent-it was a hit. Dallas residents flocked to this restaurant for the Sambuca experience, and thus began the resurgence of the supper club.

Because of their Texas success, the brother and sister duo expanded their restaurant, in the last thirteen years, to Atlanta, Denver, Houston, and Nashville. Each city shows off its own distinctive sense of style with cuisine and music. With award-winning artists and executive chefs, you can’t go wrong with Sambuca.

This is another place that I can personally recommend. It’s a non-smoking environment with a friendly wait staff and manager. On Fridays and Saturdays, the live music starts around 8 p.m. The setting for the audience and performers are intimate, with the audience and the band sometimes talking back and forth with one another between songs.

A few patrons enjoy dancing, but because of the bands close proximity to the audience, there doesn’t leave much room for a dance floor. Even so, the mostly blues and R&B bands are good for listening, singing along, and bopping to the beat in your seat at your table.

If you’re watching your carb intake, Bourbon Street has a delicious selection of low carb entrees, and if you’re not, make sure you order the pecan pie.

Sit at a table facing west and you’ll take in a panoramic view the Rocky Mountains. What a way to listen to Monday night jazz! Jazz lovers and ardent readers enjoy the charm of being surrounded by books, stuffed chairs, and candle light-it is an inviting mix. The food is good and the atmosphere is exceptional. You cannot go wrong on the Fourth Story.

This is another one that I can vouch for. Not only is Tattered Cover a great bookstore with volumes of books, but they have an amazing restaurant. If books and jazz is your thing, try the 4th Story Restaurant and Bar on, where else, the 4th story of the bookstore.

For all you country music fans, the Grizzly Rose is the place for you to visit. Grizzly Rose has been the winner of the Country Music Association’s “Best Country Music Club” award. This club offers music six nights a week, and Sundays are open to families. Willie Nelson and more recently LeAnn Rimes has been on their performing roster.

If you would like to play games in between sets, the Grizzly Rose is equipped with pool tables, a mechanical bull, and a video game. And if you’re not up-to-date on the latest country western moves, call ahead to find out when the free dance classes are offered.
