Online College for Stay-at-Home Moms

Are you a stay-at-home mom who is thirtyish and up? Do you feel like something is missing in your life? Maybe you feel like you didn’t do everything in your younger days to make your life better. Have you always dreamed of going to college? But life, family and work always seemed to be at the top of your list at the time. Do you say I can’t go to college I don’t have time, don’t want to leave the kids with a sitter, or maybe you don’t have transportation to get back and forth.

This is the age of computers. If you have a computer in your home there is nothing you can’t do. Moms like us can even attend college right in the comfort of your own home. You can do your assignments while the kids are sleeping or at school. You can get your college degree and fill that spot inside yourself where you feel like you may have let yourself down.

I have always been a stay at home Mom but I have felt like something was missing. I have always wanted to attend college but leaving my kids with a sitter isn’t something I wanted to do. I was always interested in the field of law. I have always wanted to work with a lawyer. This past fall I signed up with Kaplan University’s online Paralegal Degree Program. I have just finished my first term and I feel so good about myself and am proud of my achievements thus far.

Attending college online is very similar to physically going to a building. The best part though is you can do your classes in your P.J’s if you choose, you don’t have to comb your hair or rush the kids to a sitter.

You can receive financial aid to help pay for your college expenses. You can take out loans to cover what financial aid doesn’t and you do not have to pay it back till after graduating and it is set up in monthly payments. You can find many college websites online. Look for the best fit for you and what you want.

I feel very excited about being a college student at the same time I also feel apprehensive that I may not be able to make it through the courses to get my degree. But I am determined to do my best and stick with it because getting this degree is very important to me. You will probably feel this way to but stick with it. You can do it.

To excel in college you need to have great reading comprehension skills so you can understand what you read. You also need good writing skills to be able to keep up with your work and get your point across in essays, projects and discussion boards. Other skills needed are Critical Thinking Skills so you can analyze the information you find when researching and deciding what you information you need to do your assignments. You also need Time Management Skills so you can set aside the time you need to do your work and stick to it. And you need Study Skills; you have to figure out the best study method for you that will enable you to do your best with your study time.

When deciding what you want to study, first ask yourself these questions
Who Am I?
What Do I Want?
What Am I Good At?
What Skills DO I Have?

Be prepared to take lots of notes. Keep a notebook to put them in as you will need all of them throughout your course to help with studying for tests and preparing essays and projects. Learn how to research using the internet and other sources but remember to make sure they are trusted and truthful sources.

The tips I have in preparing for college is try and reduce stress around you, concentrate, ask for help when studying if you don’t understand something, ask questions at any time if you have any. This is how you learn and most important be prepared.

Remember your education is important. Be determined and don’t give up. If you think college is for kids then think again. Many adults are just now starting college for the first time. It’s never too late to learn something new and improve your life.
